Lucy Hugunin

Lucy's bold dream is to become an Environmental Scientist and advocate for the Earth. She will use the ABF grant to pursue her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and minor in Political Science at the University of Vermont. Lucy used her first ABF grant to venture on a month-long backpacking trip in Jasper National Park through Camp Widjiwagan. 

Besides her love for the outdoors, Lucy is president of her school's Link Crew, a board member of Letters of Love, and a member of National Honors Society. She is also the Varsity captain of Cross Country and Track and will be running track at the University of Vermont. 

Lucy says, "I believe in my current community, one of the most pressing issues that I witness is the lack of time outdoors...Forging a bond with nature makes environmental issues turn personal, and it is when someone is face to face with a melting glacier that they might begin to empathize with the hurting Earth.”
