Associate Director

The Associate Director is a newly created position that will be an integral partner to the Executive Director in driving our operational and programmatic success. This role will help bring big picture vision and strategy to life through focusing on refining and overseeing the organization’s processes, managing key projects, and ensuring efficient day-to-day operations. 

The Associate Director will build structures to make things happen.


KEY RELATIONSHIPS
The Associate Director will report to the Executive Director and will directly supervise two staff members: the Program Coordinator and the Operations Administrator & Executive Assistant. 

As a small team, the Associate Director will work closely with all ABF staff, its Board of Directors, key volunteers, and various other partners.
 

Key Responsibilities

OPERATIONS & PROCESS MANAGEMENT

  • Lead the development, implementation, and optimization of organizational processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure alignment between strategic initiatives and operational capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and enhance organizational performance. 
  • Manage and support the organizational calendar, ensuring the timely execution of key projects and deadlines.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Lead the project management of key ABF initiatives, coordinating across departments and stakeholders to ensure goals are met on time and within budget.
  • Ensure all projects are aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities, providing regular updates to the Executive Director and board as necessary.
  • Create project timelines, assign responsibilities, and track progress through completion.

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

  • Act as a thought partner to the Executive Director, providing insights and solutions to support the organization’s strategic vision.
  • Support the Executive Director in board relations, including preparing reports, attending meetings, and coordinating with board members on key initiatives.
  • Contribute to the long-term sustainability and growth of ABF by providing insight on strategic planning and program development.

TEAM LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION

  • Provide leadership and support to staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative, positive work environment.
  • Supervise and mentor staff members, promoting professional development and leadership within the team.
  • Ensure effective cross-functional communication to maintain alignment on organizational priorities and objectives.

FINANCIAL & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and manage the organizational budget.
  • Support financial operations, including tracking expenses, monitoring cash flow, and ensure compliance with financial policies.
  • Assist with fundraising efforts and ensure donor stewardship processes are efficient and effective.

The Ideal Candidate

With a passion for the Ann Bancroft Foundation mission, the ideal Associate Director candidate possesses 5+ years of experience in nonprofit operations, project management or a similar role, preferably with experience in youth or women’s empowerment. The ideal candidate is an empathetic and collaborative leader who is highly organized, process-driven, and has a deep understanding of how operational excellence supports strategic goals. 

The successful Associate Director will have the ability to turn big picture vision and strategy into reality through creating and implementing actionable processes and plans. While no one individual will possess all of the criteria below, the ideal candidate exhibits many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, streamline processes, and drive operational improvements, including proficiency with project management tools and software.
  • Strong understanding of financial management and budgeting in a nonprofit setting.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and working collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and amplifying underrepresented voices.
  • Ability to thrive in a small, collaborative organizational structure, with an agile and adaptable work style.
  • Experience leading people with an empathetic, uplifting, and positive approach.
  • Familiarity with the Minnesota and Minneapolis-St. Paul nonprofit ecosystem preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

The targeted compensation range for this role is $92,000 - $103,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Ann Bancroft Foundation offers employees a benefits plan that includes medical and dental insurance, life and disability and accidental death insurance, paid-time-off (PTO), and a retirement plan with 3% employer match.
