What is Girlhood

imagine something better-individual charchters_0000_Group 1.jpeg"Girlhood," within the context of the mission of the Ann Bancroft Foundation, refers to the formative period in the life of anyone who identifies as a girl. This phase is characterized by significant physical, emotional, and social development, including the exploration of identity, relationships, and societal roles. "Girlhood" often encompasses the experiences, challenges, and milestones that shape a young girl's growth into womanhood, including education, friendships, family dynamics, and the broader cultural and societal expectations placed on girls. The foundation believes that anyone who identifies as a girl, regardless of her background or circumstances, deserves the opportunity to realize her potential fully. Girlhood, therefore, is not just a stage of life but a critical journey of inspiration and empowerment, where the experiences, support, and opportunities provided can profoundly shape a girl's ability to live authentically and achieve her aspirations.

Jorja Wozniak

Founder, Youth in Law

Jorja Wodziak founded Youth in Law (YL) to address the lack of opportunities for law preparation courses in her hometown of Rochester, MN. Growing up in Rochester, home of the Mayo Clinic, she noticed that all the official ways to gain hands-on experience were medical-based, and the only way to get a law mentorship was through personal connections. Jorja strongly believes mentorship opportunities should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their personal connections. In February of her junior year, she launched YL to connect students to mentors in the government center. The organization seeks to provide students with valuable mentorship experiences in the field of law, promoting equal opportunities for all.
